Alone | RL King:A Written World

I so remember writing such things as this below:

I have walked, Alone
Most often, when I needed someone most
I have pushed and pulled
Don’t think I do not know, Alone
This variety of Alone
Has a different torment
For I will never find a partner for this Alone
There is not that hope
Not that imagined dream
The hand has been dealt
And it has a bitterness
It has a solitude indescribable
To teach spirituality, Alone
Drive across snow covered hiway, Alone
To sit, and bear the burden of all I am to teach them, Alone
A conscience weighed with never being good enough, Alone
To return and speak to God, Alone
Wonder if he hears me, Alone
Do not speak to me of, Alone
That, is a lifetime for me
A lifetime,
Of Alone.

Intro: Faith

it’s funny
how faith
ebbs and flows in me

right now
it is at low tide

God does not exist
nor spirit
nor afterlife

nothing

the only thing
that seems to be
beyond myself
is my love for you,
and your love for me

and that lives
only in you
and in me

We will die
no one will ever know
how irreplaceable it was

it will just be gone.

Sonnet IX: (decasyllabic line rebalanced)

If I swore never to describe my heart;
How it yearns so desperately for you;
How it quickens at every sight of you,
Every instant when I first hear your voice;

Withheld how it races when you come near;
That it skips whenever you have touched me;
Pounds with the expectation of your touch;
Beats hard enough, you see my body shake;

Kept secret its quiet morning rhythm;
Long amazed our hearts beat in synchrony;
Wondering how long they would not diverge;
Locked away my pen, and ink, and paper.

If I swore never to describe my heart,
Unheard, would it stop beating forever?

Sonnet VIII: (decasyllabic line)

If I did not describe my heart; how it
Yearns for you; how it quickens at every
Sight of you, every instant when I first
Hear your voice; If I did not write of how

It races when you come near; that it has
Skipped when you’ve touched me; that it pounds with the
Expectation of your touch, every beat
Hard enough that you can see it shake me;

Kept secret its quiet morning rhythm;
Long amazed our hearts beat in synchrony;
Wondering how long they would not diverge;
Locked away my pen, and ink, and paper.

If I swore never to describe my heart,
Unheard, would it stop beating forever?

Sonnet VII: (14 lines by clause)

If I did not describe my heart:
How it yearns for you;
How it quickens at every sight of you,
Every instant when I first hear your voice;

If I did not write: of how it races when you come near;
That it has skipped when you have touched me;
That it pounds with the expectation of your touch,
Every beat so hard that it shakes my body enough for you to see;

If I chose to keep the secret: of its quiet rhythm in the morning when I wake;
How long I have lain, quietly amazed as our hearts beat in perfect synchrony;
That I wondered how many minutes would pass before their rhythms diverged;
Every word withheld as I lay down my pen and lock it away with its barren white sheets;

If I swore not to describe my heart,
Would it stop beating forever?
