Thank you Fairy Princess. I am sentimental at heart although I rarely show it. I had gotten into a train of thought, walking around my childhood home in my mind – rooms full of magnolia and gardenia blooms, nights scented by them……and thus, the tanka.

I would look out my window as a child. During the summer nights (I’ve always had a problem sleeping), I would gaze up at the stars and then look at the magnolias and gardenias reflecting the light against their dark foliage. I’ve always been caught with the image of earthbound stars and these two flowers embody those lifelong thoughts.
