Unthrifty loveliness, why dost thou spend
Upon thyself thy beauty’s legacy?
Nature’s bequest gives nothing but doth lend,
And being frank she lends to those are free.

Then, beauteous niggard, why dost thou abuse
The bounteous largess given thee to give?
Profitless usurer, why dost thou use
So great a sum of sums, yet canst not live?

For having traffic with thyself alone,
Thou of thyself thy sweet self dost deceive.
Then how, when nature calls thee to be gone,
What acceptable audit canst thou leave?

Thy unused beauty must be tomb’d with thee,
Which, used, lives th’ executor to be.

  2. Thank you for finding KanzenSakura and thank you for following. How serendipitous – two weeks ago I was reading Mr. Shakespeare’s sonnets and then you find my blog and decide to follow. I do so appreciate you following. I look forward to reading more of your work.

    • I have been a bit under the weather and so I apologize for not answering sooner.

      I enjoyed very much reading your story. At first I thought you might be a native of Japan who had perhaps acquired a very proficient use of American English before returning to Japan, but as I read further, I see I had it all backwards!

      I have a dear friend close-by who is quite enamoured of Japan, who is fairly fluent in Japanese, and has introduced Me and Mrs. Emeron to the wonderful world of Animé and Manga. Unlike you, if I understand correctly, our dear Mrs. Emeron quite fancies the ‘shonen’ variety as being “wonderfully heroic, delightfully and quite properly sentimental, and cute enough, but not too cute,” and in this, I whole-heartedly concur. We are, in point of fact, roughly halfway through ‘Bleach,’ which we have been watching with the aforementioned friend, who has been buying the boxed sets as they become available. So, as we are currently caught up, the suspense is excruciating!

    • I do enjoy the anime’ and manga myself. I don’t always have the time to delve into it as I would like. I think I am finally getting myself acclimated in the worlds and will probably change my opinion of shonen. I find that happens at times. I am glad to hear you are feeling better and with spring coming, so you can enjoy that in particular. LOL, living with a Japanese man for 8 years makes one a little more……whatever! than most folks who are acquainted with Japanese people. Our story is all through haiku, poems, etc on my site. My friend with whom I have regular walks, is a Japanese man who is working now in this area – brilliant, lonely, and glad to find someone with whom he can be himself. It is a good friendship. I do appreciate you finding and reading and I hope you will come back and visit.

    • I have very much enjoyed and appreciate all your perspective. I sincerely hope you will not think my haiku are serious works. They are mere word play in order to introduce, in brief, my sonnets. Only quite seldom do I greatly consider their content as such. And sometimes I hide them within regular prose, as are these five here!
